Already tried the .htaccess - NO JOYTemporarily rename the .htaccess file to take it out of the picture. Does that help? Compare your .htaceess file with the default htaccess.txt.
Install the fpa-en.php file from the Joomla Forum Post Assistant package in the root of the site and run that.
Install a backup copy of the website on a subdomain to see if it acts any differently there.
